Primary Transition

Uniform:

The academy expects students to be in full school uniform throughout the school day. The exception to this is when participating in PE, in which the academy PE kit must be worn. Please see the uniform policy for more information regarding the expectations on uniform or contact your child's form tutor, in the first instance, or pastoral manager where appropriate.

Equipment:
Students who attend the academy are expected to bring with them a pencil case and appropriate equipment for learning. This should include a blue, black and green pen, a ruler, a rubber, a reading book (for KS3 students) and a scientific calculator. As an academy, we recommend the Casio, FX-85GTCW. This is the most effective brand of scientific calculator as it allows students to type in equations as they appear in textbooks and on worksheets during lessons. These calculators will be used in Maths and Science lessons, so it is important that your child is equipped and ready to learn with this.

Attendance:
Great attendance is the key to fantastic results. It is proven that students who are consistently in education are more likely to succeed than their peers who are not. At the academy, we expect students to aim for 100% attendance to all subject and tutorial periods. We will support those who require it and will make every attempt to ensure that no student’s attendance drops below a minimum of 96%. For more information on how we can support you and your child with improving attendance, please refer to the attendance tab for more information.

Appeals Process:
The academy does not deal directly with any appeal involving students transitioning from Y6 to Y7. If you would like to appeal the position that you have been offered for your child, please seek guidance from the Schools Admission Team in your local council area. For those living in Middlesbrough, please find more information at https://www.middlesbrough.gov.uk/schools-and-education/school-admissions/appeals-procedure/ and for those living in Redcar and Cleveland, please find more information at https://www.redcar-cleveland.gov.uk/schools-and-education/school-admissions/school-admissions-appeals. Please note that different local authorities have different guidance on how to appeal a decision.

Student Transition Updates:
Please note that any communication which is sent home to parents and carers of our new student community, will appear on our social media platforms and be distributed via primary schools – where appropriate. For any additional information, guidance or support with the transition process, please contact Mr Luke Yale on lyale@nunthorpe-alt.uk and Mrs Alicia Murray on amurray@nunthorpe-alt.uk.
