Welcome from the Interim Head of School

At Nunthorpe Academy, part of the Areté Learning Trust (ALT), we strive to be a high-performing 11–19 school where every student is supported, encouraged and valued.

I’m incredibly proud to serve as Head of School at Nunthorpe Academy , leading a community that believes every young person deserves the chance to thrive.

Having spent my educational career working in schools across the North East, I’m driven by a simple purpose: to create a culture where students feel valued, staff feel supported, and great teaching happens every single day.

I began my career in education after working in hospitality management, bringing with me a strong belief in high standards, teamwork and service.

Since then, I’ve held roles including Assistant Principal, Director of Learning and Vice Principal, leading on areas such as teaching and learning, curriculum development, pastoral care, attendance and staff development.

These experiences have shaped who I am as a leader today—someone who is visible, approachable and relentlessly focused on improving the life chances of young people. Outside of school, I’m a proud Northerner, born in Easington Colliery. I'm a husband and a dad to two boys, who are both still at school. I'm a keen runner, and someone who believes strongly in giving back to the community. I bring that same energy and commitment into school every day.

I welcome you to come and visit us, speak to our staff and students and get a feel for what life at Nunthorpe Academy is really like.

Please use our Calendar (or add to your favourites) to keep an eye on opportunities for your involvement and participation.

Best wishes,

Mr Peter Wood
Interim Head of School
