Safeguarding
Safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do at Nunthorpe Academy. We are committed to creating a safe, supportive and inclusive environment where every student feels protected, valued and able to thrive. All staff receive regular safeguarding training and are vigilant in recognising and responding to any concerns about a young person’s welfare. The school follows national statutory guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education, and works closely with families and external agencies to ensure that students receive the help and support they need as early as possible.
Safeguarding at Nunthorpe Academy is led by our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), Mrs Chapman-Jones, who has overall responsibility for safeguarding and child protection within the school. She is supported by the Senior Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, Mrs Fish, and a wider safeguarding team who work together to ensure that all concerns are responded to promptly, appropriately and in line with statutory guidance.
Students are encouraged to speak to any trusted adult in school if they are worried about their own safety or the safety of someone else. Parents, carers, staff and members of the community can report safeguarding concerns directly to the school by contacting the safeguarding team via the main school office or by emailing the school’s safeguarding email address. All concerns are taken seriously and will be dealt with sensitively and confidentially. Where necessary, the school will work with external agencies to ensure that students and families receive the support they need.
At Nunthorpe Academy we promote a strong culture of vigilance, openness and care, ensuring that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and that every child feels safe, heard and supported.
